The Problem With Fan Sites and Wikis

I do miss working on my An American Tail fansite on Webs.com. Every once in a while someone will ask me why I don't do much with it anymore. Well just to clarify, this is why. The site had bandwidth issues, and constantly crashed. The more stuff I put up and the more people visited the site, the more likely it would crash, so at some point I couldn't put any more pictures up or add new pages. You have to pay money to keep that from happening, that's the little scam Webs is running, there's a reason they changed their name from Freewebs. For a while I was able to buy extra bandwidth with tokens I earned through using a Webs search bar on my browser. Then, they discontinued that. You had to pay actual money. So after putting up with it crashing over and over, even making a second site and moving things over to that (which proceeded to crash as well), eventually I kinda gave up. The site's still up in some form, and I guess it's more or less as complete as it's ever going to be.

But around the time that happened, I discovered the An American Tail Wiki at Wikia, found here: anamericantail.wikia.com/wiki/…. Interestingly someone had copied and pasted from my fansite onto it, but I didn't really mind too much. I thought maybe I could focus on making that Wiki a great resource for AAT fans since the fansite wasn't really working out. The problem with that? Wiki vandals. Some random idiot likes to vandalize the pages, acting like his crossover AAT/The Secret Of NIMH fanfic is canon, insisting Fievel and his siblings are orphans who were adopted by Mrs. Brisby (who lives almost 100 years in the future, come on), etc. Try to change any of the false information he puts on the wiki pages, and you'll have an edit war on your hands. The little bastard is relentless. The admins just keep passing the buck when I try to get him banned, so there's not much I can do about it. I wish I were an administrator. The good thing about the fan site was I had control over it. Probably makes me sound power-hungry, but really you wouldn't be seeing this fanon crap on all the pages if I were in charge.

Sigh, at least there's still the Never Say Never Deviant Art group. Sort of the last vestige when it comes to a gathering for AAT fans.

I can help you with it's wiki, I did do some editing the last time I've visited there.
Plus I've learned how to do Adobe Dreamweaver, so if you need anything. I'll be happy to help make your favorite things continue to grow.

By the way, I agree with the rules about no fan stuff on the wiki. But is it possible to create a page for it's wiki, a page about fan history or popular fans. And it can be listed full of links that leads directly to any fan fictions like yours. Along with any other fan stuff like my music mixes or just anything you like. All from that one page about fans on an AT Wiki.
