The Great Mouse Reporter ~ Chapter 43
Cholena darted down the last flight of stairs, turning heads in the lobby, other mice startled to see a handcuffed young girl running for her life after having seen the police enter earlier. She opened the front doors by ramming her shoulder into them.
"Wait! Spasir!" came the call of Vartan as he ran after her. But she was already out the door.
Vartan, already getting a black eye from Quinn's punch, ran down after Cholena. The police mouse sent after them was still running down the stairs.
Nellie was in the process of climbing down the tree when she saw Cholena emerge from the apartment building. She discarded her fake beard and climbed d

When morning broke, Cholena's eyes fluttered open. She yawned and stretched, looking over at Tanya who was sleeping beside her. Tanya slept in a lot, being up late most nights. Although Cholena often stayed up just as late, she enjoyed being awake to stare out the bedroom window as the sun rose over the tall buildings. A sight she always dreamed of seeing when she was little, and something she never tired of. To feel the rays of sunlight on her face was a blessing from the spirits. Wearing one of Tanya's extra night gowns, she got on her knees and rested her arms on the window sill above the bed, smiling and looking at the view. If Tanya were

At around half-past midnight, as Basil was reading more back issues of the Daily Nibbler from cover-to-cover for clues, Reed Daley opened his front door.
"Basil!"
Basil looked up from the paper, sipping some coffee, "Ah yes, you're back. What do you have to report?"
"They know where Nellie is, and they're going to send one of their thugs to kill her. Not only that but tomorrow night they're going to flood the Lenape hideout."
Basil blinked for a moment; letting his mind comprehend the information he had just been given. He then got up from his chair and rushed to the coat rack near the door to take his hat and coat.
"I'll go get Nellie,

Earlier that day, a gentlemouse in a top hat and a thick beard approached the entrance to the Museum of Natural History. This gentlemouse, of course, was none other than Basil of Baker Street in a cunning disguise. Reed Daley had warned him to stay indoors for now, but Basil couldn't just sit idly by with his dearest friend Dawson imprisoned, and his love Nellie Brie at risk, and the son of his arch-enemy causing havoc. He needed answers. As of late he'd been reading through old back issues of The Daily Nibbler for any information he could find about Quinn's allies. He found the incident with the Lenape girl and the angry mob that tried to ca

"I lose my way, no one cares. The things I say, no one hears. My world it seems, is a world of dreams…"
Tanya relished in the spotlight during her solo musical number, one she'd convinced the director to insert into the play near the end of the first act, where her character wistfully longs for her crush Ichobod Crane to confess his love to her. As always, her audience paid rapt attention, captivated by her singing. She hoped that maybe if enough mice took notice of her singing ability she could go into a singing career along with acting, as that was her real passion.
And as per usual most nights, Quinn had stopped in to watch her per

There was a knock at the door to Quinn's office.
"Yes?" Quinn answered, signing off on a proposal to provide more police protection at the Castle Garden marketplace against cat attacks, though knowing full well that Warren's gang and the police had an agreement on how many mice they were allowed to take from that area.
His secretary answered the door, "There's a haggard, damp lizard with burn marks on his clothing to see you."
"This job," he sighed, "Send him in."
A few moments later Bill entered the room. He was indeed soaked after swimming through the water fountain to escape into Central Park; however that had felt wonderful after the

Horse hooves clopped against the cobblestone streets in uptown New York. The streets were lined with large, wealthy homes, a far cry from downtown or the poorer neighborhoods. Nellie had never been fortunate enough to live in these parts when she was a star reporter, but she never felt the need for a large home anyway. Vartan had only been here with Nellie on reports.
"Gussie's home is right on the corner," Nellie said, as they walked along the sidewalk.
Vartan nodded, rubbing his bloodshot eyes.
"You going to make it?"
"Ayo…I'll be alright," he said with a yawn.
"We need to get some coffee somewhere," Nellie said with a light chuc

A stone door slid open at the base of a statue in Central Park. Nellie Brie and Vartan stepped out into the morning light, both fatigued and squinting after coming out of the dark. It had taken a few hours to get down to the Lenape hideout, drop Fievel and Olivia off and come back up again.
"Ready for the next stage of our plan?" Nellie asked.
"As ready as I can be vith no sleep," Vartan replied.
"Get ready to swim again," Nellie said.
Vartan nodded, and they hopped in, swimming toward the other side. As they made it over the wall and jumped down, they saw two mice walking down the path some distance ahead.
"Vartan, hide!"
